Competitive programs: Pre-competitive, Interclub Performance, Performance Plus

Women's artistic gymnastics (WAG) is the perfect fusion of personal creative expression of gymnastic skill and individual demonstration. WAG is an Olympic sport, which features four gymnastics apparatus: vault, bars, beam, and floor. Celestina Popa Gymnastics Inc. offers competitive programs: Pre-competitive, Interclub Performance, Performance Plus

Pre-Competitive (ages 6-8y)

Gymnasts MUST be recommended into this level after successful completion/mastery of the level 3 and 4 skills.

For this 10-month program, athletes are assessed, selected and trained (schedule to be determined) on all apparatus in the gym. Gymnasts improve their skills on vault, bars, beam and floor and make short routines in preparation for competitions the following year. Training for this program is 2 hours per week Sept -June with cost calculated over 36 weeks and divided evenly per month regardless of the number of classes in that month.

Interclub Performance (ages 7+):

Interclub Performance is performance based and gives advanced recreational level athletes throughout British Columbia an opportunity to showcase their personal ability, participate in gymnastics events and perform routines in a creative way. They will not be marked or judged, meaning there will not be a classification of the athletes at the end; however, athletes will receive comments. All interclub gymnasts must attend a minimum of 3 local/away competitions per year. Training for this program is 4-5 hours per week Sept -June with cost calculated over 36 weeks and divided evenly per month regardless of the number of classes in that month.

Performance Plus (ages 8+):

Athletes will receive a score for each routine, as well as bronze, silver and gold ribbon or medal that corresponds with the score of each routine. Athletes will be giving a deduction for spotting on respective apparatus score.

Some competition give out SPECIAL AWARDS -Special awards highlight athletes with outstanding or creative performances. Special awards should not automatically be designated to the athletes with the highest skill sets. It is expected that the Meet Director will check adjudicator recommendations for special awards to ensure that they are distributed fairly. The host club may also recognize athletes that stand out based on the spirit of their event (e.g. overcoming challenges, being a great teammate). For each Interclub session offered, the special awards listed in the chart below are required.

(Vault /Vigorous Vaulter, Beam /Brilliant Beam, Bars /Super Swinger, beam/Beautiful Balance, floor /Terrific Tumbler, floor Dazzling Dancer)

All interclub gymnasts must attend a minimum of 2 local/away competitions per year. Training for this program is 4-5 hours per week Sept -June with cost calculated over 36 weeks and divided evenly per month regardless of the number of classes in that month.

Withdrawing from any competitive program must be done in writing with one month's notice required. Telephone cancellations will not be considered valid. Athletes withdrawing permanently from a program will have cheques returned, with the exception of the month in progress. Selection for these programs is made by Celestina and is by invitation only. Athletes who would like to be considered for a competitive program, please email celestinapopa@hotmail.com to enquire about an assessment.

Unfortunately, at this time, we do not have the equipment nor coaches to safely and successfully train male competitive athletes and as such our competitive programs are limited to female athletes.
